Coach Ryan McLean will be coaching pulling double duty, when he coaches our Mite and Bantam Teams.
Coach McLean is from Brandon, Manitoba Canada, he’s been playing hockey for 20 years now. Coach McLean started playing away from home when he was 17, he left home for 3 years to play with the Estevan Bruins and a year with the Weyburn Red Wings. After his time away, he was given a scholarship to the University of Regina in the CIS. Coach McLean also played in the CHL with the Wichita Thunder for 5 years. Since then Coach McLean has been coaching for 8 years. While in his playing days, Coach Mclean was on winning teams that won league championships 3 times in youth hockey, and he also won the SJHL Championship and the Anavet Cup.
Coach McLean has his level 1 and 2 in Canadian Coaching training, and is currently taking his level 3 for his USA Coaches training. He’s put together 8 of his own hockey clinics, and worked at over 15 others. In is “off time”, Coach McLean gives private lessons and has done so for over 6 years.
One of Coach McLean’s defining moments in hockey was when he was able to score in triple overtime in the playoffs last season against Shrevport in Game 3. Another defining moment for him is from a coaching standpoint, when he was treated poorly by a Coach that he played for. Coach McLean said, “I promised myself that when I began Coaching, I would never treat any of my players like that, or try to ruin their career. Role models for Coach McLean would be Wayne Gretzky, also Don King, and his big cousin Chris Johnston.
Coach McLean feels he brings a great deal to the hawks Organization. He’s a very upbeat person and Coach, and has a very positive attitude. “My boys will always WORK HARD, while HAVING FUN. I love the game of hockey, and I love my boys, so I hope everything works out this season and in the future.”
