Dallas Hawks Hockey Association

Philosophy: “Hockey is merely an evolved form of the kids game Keep Away. It just happens to be played on a slippery surface with a set of tools. As a kids game, fundamentally, fun is the overriding principal to play. Winning is the objective, as it is more fun to win than the alternative. The level of tool skill sets varies within the team, and therefore the level of expected contribution should vary among the team members. The coaches primary responsibility is to translate each of those individual levels of expectations into solid team play. It is done through practicing aggressive, clean, hard team play with an emphasis on fundamentals(ie, skating, puck handling, passing and positioning drills), with respect for your teammates, coaches, referees and league officials required while under the responsibility of the Hawks.”

 

Grew up in a culture of ice hockey playing on the ponds, lakes, rivers and ice rinks of the greater Chicago land area. Played as much as I could through high school.

 

College hockey participation consisted of a walk on interview with the Bowling Green (Ohio) Falcon head coach with agreed try out. Opted to play “intramural hockey” as a freshmen. Lead the league in scoring among dozens of on campus teams, while winning the on-campus championship as all freshmen. Lost to the all senior off campus champs in the overall league BGSU championship.

 

Transferred to Rutgers University where I played 2 years of club hockey. Decided to focus on college baseball for my final 2 years at Rutgers winning MIP (Most Improved) in 1975 and MVP in 1976.

 

Coaching experience started with my sons Eddie and Jake both whom play at the Bantam level right now but Eddie is moving to Midget.
